Intended to enrich the visits of the thousands of people who make their way to the Branson and Tri-Lakes area each year, the Dewey Short Visitors Center is a stunning example of design and engineering coming together to produce a remarkable building and educational, memorable experience.
Named after the congressman who championed for the area and its development, it stands as a tribute to the beauty of the lakes and outdoors that make up one of the country’s most beautiful and scenic destinations – the Ozarks.
The “Crown Jewel” of Table Rock Lake
At a cost of nearly $8 million, this nearly 15,000 square foot (and LEED Golf Certified) building sits next to the Table Rock Dam – the facility features state-of-the-art features and educational exhibits in addition to cultural aspects like artwork from regional artists and landscaping featuring local plants and flowers.
Inside the visitor center’s facilities you will find a variety of different things that can help inform, entertain, and educate you about the area:
- Interactive map of Table Rock Lake using state-of-the-art technologies
- Wall murals created by local artists
- A large, replica of an Ozarks bluff that features plants and flowers native to Missouri.
- Corps of Engineers historical timeline
- Water safety exhibits and examples
- Detailed outline of how a hydroelectric dam works
- Ozarks & Native American artifacts and exhibits.
- Maps and information about the lake and water activities
Discovery Shop
Inside the center there is a gift shop and store which features many different books, pictures, postcards, and clothing in addition to many other items that are thematically-related to the information inside the facility.
Rotating in and out of the shop is work from local craftsmen and artisans, which give you a chance to take home some of the unique items that you will find in the Ozarks.
