Taking his act to the stages of Branson, Russia’s funniest comedian shares his humor, comedy, and insights about life in the United States as Yakov Smirnoff delivers one of the most hilarious two-hour acts you will ever see!
30+ Years of Performing!
Departing the Communist-driven government of the Soviet Union, Yakov brought his unique brand of humor to the U.S. in the mid-1980s – creating a stand-up routine that would propel him to stardom.
Using clever word-play now known as “Russian Reversal” and his trademark “What a Country!” phrase, he was broadcast into the home of millions of people around the world sharing his one-liners like: “In America, you watch Big Brother. In Soviet Russia, Big Brother watches you!” amongst his various insights of the differences in growing up between the two radically-different countries.
Becoming a cultural phenomenon, Yakov would go on to become one of the most popular and prominent comedians of the 1980s and early 90s.
From Stand-Up to Movies!
His success would lead to appearances on some of the most-watched shows and movies in the following decade including recurring features on the TV show “Night Court” as well as multiple performances on the “Tonight Show” with the late, great Johnny Carson. Yakov would even go on to star in a one-season special of his own: “What a Country!”
The television spots would later lead to landing movie roles including “The Money Pit,” “Brewster’s Millions,” and other small roles in which he was a standout performer.
Two Decades of Branson Shows!
In the early 90s, he purchased a theatre in one of the country’s live entertainment capitals in Branson, Missouri. One of the largest and most impressive venues in the popular tourist town, he regularly performed sold-out shows to audiences from around the country who would travel to see him playing year-round.
Taking his show on the road to perform in various theatres and concert halls around the country, he now performs a few select months in the fall and winter – continuing the tradition of bringing laughs and smiles to the thousands of people who visit the area each year.
